Projects

Lady Loretta Zinc Project

Douglas Partners completed a pre-feasibility study for a water supply for the proposed Lady Loretta Mine located in Far North Queensland. DP Hydrogeologists were commissioned by engineering consultants Beca AMEC of New Zealand, to investigate the potential for a groundwater supply to the mine from the Thorntonia Limestone aquifer.

The Thorntonia Limestone aquifer is situated within the Gregory River catchment, which has been declared under the Wild Rivers Act 2005 and is subject to restrictions on the use of surface water and groundwater for industrial and irrigation purposes. Douglas Partners’ investigations included:
  • Review of geological and topographic mapping of the area;
  • Field inspections and groundwater level monitoring;
  • Construction of a numerical groundwater flow model of the aquifer;
  • Design of a borefield, delivery pipeline and groundwater monitoring system;
  • Discussions with the Department of Natural Resources and Water and other legislative authorities;
  • Reviews of previous investigations to protect and maintain futuregroundwater supplies in the area.
