Port Kembla Terminal Expansion, Wollongong NSW

Douglas Partners engineers have undertaken geotechnical investigations for the $140 million re-development of the Port Kembla Terminals in Wollongong, NSW.

The Port Kembla facilities will be transformed from a bulk cargo port to one which is capable of handling both bulk and general cargo, containers and cars. Incorporated in the future development is the realignment of road and rail in the port to optimize land use and separate traffic from other port locations.

DP contributions to the project included:

  • Investigations to provide information on subsurface conditions
  • Design of new pavements and foundation options.
  • Drainage and earthworks.  
  • Site preparation for the construction of cargo sheds and cargo berth infrastructure including a car import and pre-delivery facility, general cargo terminal, bulk cargo handling facility and dry bulk handling facility.
