Fiona is a Principal based in DP’s Sydney office and has over 30 years experience as a geotechnical consultant. She is qualified in both civil engineering and geology and started her career working on major hydro-electric projects in Australia and PNG. Fiona joined DP in 1994 after completing a doctorate on the excavatability of rock. Since joining DP she has provided geotechnical advice on a wide range of projects throughout Australia which have included highways, ports, railways, tunnels, landslides, deep excavations and offshore pipelines.
In recent years Fiona has been geotechnical project manager and geotechnical designer for a number of large highway projects such as the Frederickton to Eungai Pacific Highway upgrade, the Hunter Expressway (western section), a portion of the Woolgoolga to Ballina Upgrade project, and the Woomargama Bypass on the Hume Highway. These projects have all involved extensive geotechnical investigations including drilling, in-situ testing and sampling and geophysical surveys.
Fiona was the project manager of the geotechnical investigations and sediment assessments required for the Port Botany Expansion project which was undertaken for Sydney Ports Corporation. She has also recently been part of the geotechnical investigation team for the Sydney Metro project which involves construction of new rail tunnels and associated stations between Chatswood and Sydenham. These investigations included drilling and testing both on land and overwater. The overwater work was undertaken using both floating barges and jack-up barges.
