Soil Laboratory Manager

What the role is

We are seeking a Laboratory Manager to work in our NATA-accredited Brisbane Laboratory.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Supervision and management of laboratory staff including training and upskilling of technicians;
  • Mentoring and coaching of technical staff to develop and grow professionally in laboratory management and testing skills;
  • Participation in the development of business opportunities around the Brisbane region and liaison with the Laboratory Business Manager to identify potential income streams;
  • Coordination of day-to-day operational requirements of the testing laboratory;
  • Liaison with internal staff and clients on testing schedules, methods, procedures and results;
  • Overseeing the sampling, testing and reporting in accordance with the specifications, using appropriate test methods;
  • Preparation of test reports and generating invoices;
  • Reviewing all test reports issued with NATA endorsement before approval and issue to clients;
  • Laboratory’s ongoing compliance to the laboratory management manual and ISO/IEC 17025;
  • Management of the appropriate maintenance and calibration of all laboratory equipment; and
  • Safeguard the Laboratory by adopting safe operating procedures and processes at all times.

 

About you

You will be a team player with a high level of initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm. Your excellent communication skills, commitment, time management and your desire to deliver work to the highest standards are essential.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Branch Manager to plan and project manage a sector within the business.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will possess:

  • Proven experience in laboratory and field testing of soils, aggregate testing to relevant Australian and QLD Main Roads standards;
  • Previous experience in managing a laboratory;
  • Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques, Diploma or Degree-qualified;
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements;
  • Ability to prepare and report NATA-certified results for clients;
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritise and schedule work to meet deadlines;
  • Knowledge of WHS compliance and Risk Management requirements;
  • Advanced experience in testing equipment;
  • Intermediate experience with associated software including Outlook, Word and Excel;
  • Demonstrated problem solving involving research, analysis and evaluation of information;
  • Australian Driver’s licence is essential;
  • Nuclear gauge licence is desirable.
