EIANZ Conference 2018, Sydney

About the event

The EIANZ Annual Conference is the Institute’s signature event each year, inspiring practitioners, and providing exceptional professional development and networking opportunities to EIANZ members and colleagues. The 2018 conference challenges us to look ahead, and to re-imagine how environmental practitioners deliver outstanding environmental outcomes – in the places we work and for the people within them – now and into the future.

The 2018 conference program includes inspiring speakers from diverse backgrounds in business, advocacy, indigenous knowledge, communications, science, environmental law, and planning. They include:

  • Councillor Jess Miller, Deputy Lord Mayor of Sydney, environmental advocate and sustainability innovator;
  • Professor Emma Johnston, Dean of Science, and Head of the Applied Marine and Estuarine Ecology Lab, at the UNSW, a Marine Scientist and science communicator extraordinaire;
  • Principal Environment Judge Laurie Newhook, who heads the Environment Court of NZ;
  • Geoff Roberts, Deputy Chair and Economics Commissioner at the Greater Sydney Commission, a leading strategic thinker on city building and transformation;
  • Ambassador Michael Pulch, the European Union’s representative to Australia, who will provide insights on EU-level action and perspectives on energy and climate;
  • Doug Jackson, AGL Executive General Manager – Group Operations, who will discuss AGL’s energy and climate agenda, including decarbonisation, transition and rehabilitation.

These leaders, along with other speakers, will share their unique perspectives on the environmental challenges, and solutions, of the 21st century.

In discussion with delegates, they will re-imagine our view of:

  • The Environment and the Law
  • City Building and Re-building
  • Integrating Indigenous Knowledge and Planning
  • The Challenges of Energy and Climate.

They’ll also be examining the latest trends transport, waste, digital disruption, regulatory reform, impact assessment and stakeholder communications, and their implications for your work and your career.
