Experts in Groundwater Remediation

On a number of sites DP have been working to reduce contaminant loads from petroleum hydrocarbon plumes in groundwater.

DP has been working on a multi-pronged approach to manage the resultant contamination plume. On this site we have used a combination of monitored natural attenuation for the outer plume and multi-phase vapour extraction (MPVE) for the plume core to reduce the contaminant loads.

This particular plume is associated with leakage from petroleum storage tanks which had been in the ground for nearly 40 years.  When the tanks were finally removed a few years ago, large holes were visible in the walls of the tank.

The idea is to remove/reduce the secondary source of the contamination (residual light-non aqueous phase liquid) so that the remnant products (dissolved phase petroleum hydrocarbons) can be more rapidly broken down via natural attenuation process. The truck in the background is the MPVE unit which is removing the petroleum hydrocarbons from the groundwater in all forms whether it be vapour, dissolved phase or as free product. The aim being to reduce the time required for remediation to get the site ready for development as fast as possible.
