& Innovation Precinct
Clients: John Holland Group – NSW Health
Project Type: Healthcare & Infrastructure
The NSW Government’s significant investment in the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct aims to create a premier hub for innovation, health and wellbeing. This ambitious redevelopment project is designed to integrate seamlessly with healthcare, research, education and training facilities, elevating the Randwick Hospitals Campus to new heights of excellence
A Vision for the Future of Health and Innovation
The Randwick Campus Redevelopment initiative comprises three major construction projects, each focused on enhancing health and research infrastructure. These projects will not only improve patient care and medical research, but also foster collaboration and innovation across various fields.
Pre-Construction Investigations
Our initial engagement involved detailed investigations and reporting of soil, rock and groundwater conditions, as well as contamination issues and risks. These pre-construction assessments were vital in identifying potential challenges and informing the design and construction processes. By thoroughly understanding the site’s geotechnical and environmental landscape, we helped mitigate risks and optimise construction and remediation strategies.
Ongoing Consultancy Services
Throughout the remediation, civil, and construction phases, Douglas Partners provided (and continues to provide) ongoing environmental and geotechnical consultancy services. Our team of experts ensured that every aspect of the project adhered to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and sustainability. Key services included:
- Environmental Services: Facilitating a Site Auditor Statement (SAS) that confirmed the site’s suitability for hospital use was a critical milestone for the first stage comprising the Prince of Wales Hospital Acute Services Building. Our environmental specialists managed the remediation of contaminants, including asbestos, hydrocarbons, unsuitable fill and former fuel tanks. This rigorous process ensured that the site met all necessary regulatory requirements, paving the way for safe and sustainable development. Similar services are currently being implemented, including reporting to facilitate a Site Auditor Statement for the remaining stages of the development.
- Geotechnical Services: Geotechnical investigations including groundwater monitoring for State Significant Development Application. Design development with review of geotechnical aspects of designs by Design and Construct contractors. Impact assessments otherwise known as Specialist Engineering Assessments (SEAs) for Sydney Water utilities. Impact assessment of basement on Light Rail infrastructure in the capacity of a Technically Assured Organisation (TAO) for Transport for New South Wales requirements. Continuous geotechnical support during construction was essential in addressing subsurface challenges and interfacing structures. Our expertise in soil and rock mechanics helped navigate complex ground conditions, ensuring the stability and integrity of the new structures.
Enhancing Healthcare Infrastructure
The Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct is set to become a beacon of healthcare excellence and innovation. Douglas Partners is proud to have played a pivotal role in this transformative project, providing the necessary groundwork for a future-focused healthcare environment.
