Building the Next Generation of Project Managers
At Douglas Partners, technical excellence is only part of the story. Delivering grounded solutions for the built environment requires more than strong geotechnical, environmental and groundwater expertise. I It demands leadership, commercial awareness and trusted client relationships.
It’s for these reasons our Graduate Program goes beyond technical training. Emerging Project Managers are invited to attend a two-day, face-to-face Project Manager Course designed to build capability, confidence, and leadership early in their careers.
Developing Future Project Leaders in Engineering
Our Project Manager Course is designed to help graduates transition from “doing the work” to confidently leading the work.
This investment strengthens not only individual careers, but also the consistency and quality of project delivery across our geotechnical, environmental and hydrogeology teams.
Day One: Leading with Effectiveness
The first day draws on principles from FranklinCovey and the globally recognised The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, tailored specifically for project managers in engineering consulting.
Participants explore how to:
- Build and sustain strong client relationships
- Prioritise effectively – focusing on what’s important, not just what’s urgent
- Manage competing deadlines across multiple projects
- Communicate clearly and proactively with stakeholders
For graduates stepping into project responsibilities, this foundation develops structured thinking, improved communication, and stronger leadership presence.
Day Two: Commercial and Project Control
Delivering successful projects requires more than technical knowledge. The second day focuses on the practical realities of project delivery within consulting engineering.
Sessions cover:
- Financial management fundamentals
- Legal and contractual awareness
- Budget, scope and schedule control
- Quality assurance and risk planning
By understanding commercial drivers our emerging Project Managers are better equipped to deliver predictable, high-quality outcomes for clients in infrastructure, property, resources and environmental sectors.
Why This Matters for Clients
For our clients, this structured training means working with consultants who are:
- Organised and accountable
- Commercially aware
